"Banta in new york" joke

On his first visit to New York, Banta was assaulted by two muggers. He fought back, but being alone the muggers finally subdued him. His attackers then proceeded to go through his pockets.
'You mean you fought like that for 50 cents?' asked one of the muggers incredulously.
'Is that all you wanted?' moaned Banta.' I thought you were after the 400 dollars in my shoe!'
